This collection consists of different items that have been found within pages of books either donated to the Washington State University Vancouver Library. Some of the items include postcards, letters, ribbons and photographs. These materials were collected overtime by the Library, Archives and Special Collections and acquired from numerous departments and student organizations on campus.
The Things That We Find in Books Collection began as a realia collection to demonstrate how books are used to store items of study, personal affects, everyday ephemera, and other miscellaneous items. Many of the items in the collection were found in donated books intended for the Library or Archives and Special Collections. The items were removed from the books prior to their inclusion or disposition. Many of the materials collected were presumably used as bookmarks, memorabilia or intended for study. The collection is is preserved in the Archives and Special Collections as a curiosity about the way books are used. The items in the collection is intended as a feature for exhibits and archival instruction.
