Scope and Contents

The contents include scrapbooks and records documenting the activities of the Hudson's Bay Branch (Vancouver, Washington) of American Association of University Women (AAUW) from 1983 to 2017. The collection entails seven photo albums that include photographs, ephemera, pamphlets and clippings. In addition, there are seven three-ring binders of meeting minutes, agendas and other records. These have been arranged into file folders for preservation purposes. The collection includes records that are catagorized as Miscellaneous. These are items that have no formal organization and may have been collected with an intent to integrate materials into existing scapbooks. A VHS tape from a 1992 "Women of Achievement" ceremony and a cassette tape of the 1979 AAUW convention keynote are also included in this collection.

Biographical / Historical

The Hudson's Bay Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) was established in the 1980s as an alternative to other branches of the AAUW in the Clark County area. The branch advances the same principles as the national organization, assisting in a mission of equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. The branch participates the in AAUW-WA Public Policy programs, local scholarships, hosts social events, a Real University Book Group and holds regular branch meetings.

The American Association of University Woman (AAUW) was established in 1881 as a non-profit organization of college women serving to advance equity and education for women and girls. The AAUW provides guidance and examination on issues effecting women including education, social conditions, economics and politics.

Abstract

The collection contains scrapbooks, photographs and records documenting the Hudson's Bay branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in Vancouver, Washington. Items in the collection are dated from 1983 to 2017.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged in two series as follows:

Series A and B: Scrapbooks and Organization Records. This series include seven photo albums organized as scrapbooks grouped in a date range. The contents include photographs, newspaper clippings, monthly bulletins, award notifications and pamphlets. These are contained in seven customized boxes. An additional seven document boxes include organizational records that are grouped by date range with contents similar to the photo albums, but not organized in the scrapbook format. These include clippings, AAUW newsletters, photographs, correspondences, membership rosters, convention pamphlets and other documents. Contents were originally arranged in three-ringed binders, which were sorted in file folders for preservation purposes.

Series C: Miscellaneous Records. The series includes three document boxes with a range of materials that originally had no apparent organization. These have been arranged broadly by material type. Items include a group of photographs, various pamphlets on social issues, letters to the editor, procedures, bylaws, financial reports and audio-visual material.
