Scope and Contents note

The collection is comprised of materials from committees functioning under the Vancouver National Historical Reserve Study Commission. Dates of items range approximately from 1990 to 1994. The commission was established to create a feasibility study and an environmental assessment to coordinate a management plan for the creation of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve. The establishment of the Historic reserve was initiated to preserve the rich history associated with the area including Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, Vancouver Barracks, Pearson Airpark, the Columbia Riverfront, and the site of the original Kaiser Shipyards. The collection contains correspondence, meeting minutes, memos and other items pertaining to the commissions objective. The Vancouver National Historical Reserve was established congressionally in 1996.

Abstract

Materials were created and compiled by the Vancouver National Historic Reserve Commission, its technical committees and government offices during the early 1990’s. Included in the collection are documents, correspondence, meeting minutes, notes, editorials, feasibility studies, government reports, petitions from the public, congressional transcripts and historical essays. The collection also contains pamphlets, videos and booklets relating to the Historic Reserve, Vancouver Barracks, Fort Vancouver and the Pearson Airpark. Materials in this collection were donated by Hal Dengerink. [Accessioned as wsuv.2006.002]

The collection is currently contained in a file cabinet drawer labeled WSUV.SpeColl 002. The files exist in a chronological order by date starting with January 1990.
