It was sponsored by The Roots of Contemporary Issues program and the Collective for Social and Environmental Justice as part of Earth Day events. Biographical / Historical

The Climate Action Forum was part of Earth Day awareness activities on the WSU Vancouver campus in 2023. The forum features a panel with local officials, activists and others to discuss Vancouver's Climate Action Framework, a plan to make Vancouver carbon neutral by 2024. Panelists include Don Steinke of the Sierra Club Beyond Fossil Fuels Task Force, Rebecca Small, a senior policy analyst for the City of Vancouver, council member Kim Harless of the City of Vancouver, and Sue Marshall, a member of the Clark County Council.

The Climate Action Forum addresses the adopted resolution for a Climate Action Framework that was approved by the City of Vancouver on December 5, 2022. The Cliamate Action Framework is a blueprint to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build resiliency to climate change impacts. The framework defines strategies and actions necessary to achieve the goal of becoming a carbon neutral community by 2040.

The forum was sponsored by WSU Vancouver's Roots of Contemporary Issues Program and WSU Vancouver's Collective for Social and Environmental Justice. Dr. Sue Peabody introduces the forum and Dr. Paul Theirs moderates the panel.

Dr. Sue Peabody requested that the Archives and Special Collections capture the CVTV broadcast and document the event as part of WSU Vancouver continual efforts to bring environmental awareness to the larger community. The original accession for this video is UA-WSUV-2023-002.
