Collection Policy and Mission Statement

The purpose of the Washington State University Vancouver Library, Archives & Special Collections is to preserve primary source materials that support the teaching, research, and scholarly mission of Washington State University. The Archives & Special Collections accepts donations and transfers of unique collections originating from WSU Vancouver, alumni and associates. This includes materials representing historic content from the surrounding region of Southwest Washington with emphasis on WSU’s significant contribution to the region. The Archives & Special Collections are primarily concerned with print and born digital materials produced by organizations which are either part of WSU Vancouver, or which are affiliated with WSU or WSU Vancouver. Materials that fall outside of the recognized collection scope and geographical definition may be accepted if materials specifically support faculty and student scholarship at WSU Vancouver and if the Archives & Special Collections can provide appropriate storage, maintenance and access to the collection. The primary functions of the Archives & Special Collections is to acquire, arrange, describe, catalog, preserve, digitize and provide access to these primary sources.

What the Archives & Special Collections accepts is not always easily defined and is more regularly determined on a case by case basis. If you have question please contact the Archives & Special Collections at van.lib.archives@wsu.edu or (360) 546-9249.
