Biographical/Historical note

Washington State University Vancouver opened its Salmon Creek location in 1996. The branch was formally established in 1989 after participating in the Southwest Washington Joint Center for Education beginning in 1983. The campus and its facilities were initially located at Clark Community College. Preparations and planning for a permanent location and campus began in 1991. The campus started with the planning of primary buildings to house student services, administrative offices, a lecture hall, a building designated for classrooms and a library. The materials in this collection documents communications, procedures and the progress of the committees in the planning of the Salmon Creek campus prior to its opening.

The records were collected from the files of Gretta Siegel, WSU Vancouver Librarian. Most of the documents reflect the process and communications of the site and program planning committee in the preparation and planning for the new campus. The original plan for the campus was conceived in four phases between 1991 and 1994 with the aid of regional data, WSU guidelines and WSU campus planning statements and proposals.
