Biographical / Historical

The Associated Students of Washington State University Vancouver (ASWSUV) is an organization dedicated to providing the students of Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV) with a unique student life experience through advocacy, leadership, and activities. Leaders are both elected and appointed to represent the student body of WSUV, as well as advocate for their interests and needs to both campus administrators and state representatives. ASWSUV’s two main goals are to create an engaging student life on campus and to represent and advocate for student needs. This is achieved by organizing student events both on and off campus, working to resolve student issues, and providing funding to clubs and organizations. In addition, ASWSUV lobbies on behalf of student interests.

The Executive Staff of the ASWSUV includes the elected positions of President and Vice President, who then appoint applicants to the six remaining positions, which are then confirmed by the Senate. A portion of the Executive Staff’s time is spent designing and implementing programs that will benefit students, such as trips, banquets, movie nights, giveaways, and many other activities. The Executive Staff also spend a large amount of time tackling issues that will affect the students on campus, including working with state legislators and collaborating with other departments on campus. It is also the Executive Staff’s responsibility to organize ASWSUV as a whole and ensure that student needs are being met by the leaders chosen to represent them.

The Senate is composed of eleven elected senators, who pass legislation and allocate funding that will allow for student needs to be met. In addition to passing important legislation, the Senate also has the ability to make resolutions that affect the student body.

The Student Activities Board is a committee of Student Government that consists of six paid positions held by students whose mission is to plan and host events that help create a meaningful college experience.

The Judicial Board is made up of two justices and one chief justice; each are appointed by the President to serve until they leave WSU Vancouver. The Judicial Board presides over any disputes involving students, the Senate, or the Executive Staff.
