Scope and Contents

The coverage of dates for the slides expands from WSU Vancouver's first official year as a university in 1989 and continues through commencement ceremonies in 2006. The slides continued as a medium for the Office of Campus Advancement until 2003 when staff began to exclusively use digital formats.

Biographical/Historical note

The Office of Campus Advancement was a precursor to WSU Vancouver's Office of Marketing and Communications and the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. Campus Advancement originally oversaw campus fundraising, event planning, internal and external communications and a host of other activities conducted by Marketing and Communications and Development and Alumni Relations. The office split into two separate departments at the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year.

Photographs compiled by Marketing and Communications document changes in campus history particularly during WSU Vancouver's transition from Bauer Hall to Salmon Creek in 1996. Many of the photographs include general campus scenes of the exterior of buildings. The collections include multiple photos of individuals taken during campus photo shoots.

Extent

5.01 Linear feet (22 archive boxes.) : The majority of the collection consists of slides. The is one box of containing compact discs and two boxes containing photographs and negatives.

Abstract

The slides in this collection were compiled by the WSU Vancouver Office of Campus Advancement and used for presentations, media communications, and publications (print and online). The slides include images from photoshoots on the original WSU Vancouver campus at Clark College's Bauer Hall. The slides document the students, staff, and faculty, the campus groundbreaking ceremony at Salmon Creek, construction on the Salmon Creek site, Washington State Governor Gary Locke's visit to the campus, graduation ceremonies, classroom and outdoor scenes, and other campus events. The collection is a part of the UA-WSUV.2013.003 accession.

Arrangement note

The slides in the collection are arranged by year in a series of boxes (Box 1-16). An additional three boxes of slides (Box 17-19) are arrange by particular theme: Art and Presentation Slides; Campus Construction, circa. 1994-1996; Misc. 1990s. The slides were originally enclosed in binders and arranged by this same sequence.

Box 20 consists of compact discs with photographic images in jpeg format. These feature Washington State University Vancouver Graduation Ceremonies, a campus visit from Washington State Governor Gary Locke and a 2006 Employee Appreciation Event.

Box 21-22 includes photographs of WSU Vancouver Salmon Creek Construction, pre-construction photographs and site transition and miscellaneous campus photos from the late 1990s. A small number of photographic negatives are also included.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was transferred to the Archives and Special Collections by staff at the WSU Vancouver Office of Communications and Marketing. The collection was orginally accessioned as UA.WSUV.2013.003 in 2013.
