Biographical / Historical

The Washington State University, Vancouver Library was established in 1989 where it operated out of a room at Bauer Hall on the Clark College campus. The Library moved to its location in the Library Building in 1996 with the construction of the WSU Vancouver campus in Salmon Creek. The mission of the library is to advance the research and learning goals of all members of the WSU Vancouver community and to serve as an information resource within the Southwest Washington community.

The Library's Reference Services provides classroom and one-on-one instruction. To help facilitate the abundance of information and resources avilable through WSU Libraries and the interenet, the Library's Reference routinely compiles bioliographic information and guides to direct users to valuable resources. The Libray Guides are one of the tools the Library uses for this service.

Abstract

The collection includes WSU Vancouver Library Lib Guides or Library Guides used as an easy reference for students, faculty and staff for research relating to a specific subject area. The guides in the collection were compiled for particular campus events and areas of interest. The guides feature bibliographies and interenet resources covering "Black Lives Matter," resources relating to the Common Reading program, and the Diversity Film Festival.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged in four directories under one main collection directory, Library Lib Guides. The four subsequent directories reflect the following:

Black Lives Matter: A reading list provided as part of the library's Black Lives Matter display, which was created by the Student Diversity Center. It is based on a list compiled by workers at Left Bank Books in St. Louis.

Common Reading (2016-2017): a reader's guide, events and additional resources for the 2016-2017 Common Read, Integration Nation by Susan E. Eaton.

Common Reading (2017-2018): a reader's guide providing information on the 2017-2018 Common Reading book, Spare Parts by Joshua Davis. Includes resources for programming as well as research support on immigrant and refugee issues.

Diversity Film Festival: a reader's guide from the first Diversity Film Festival held on the WSU Vancouver campus in 2008. List of featured films at the Diversity Film Festival from 2008-2013.
