Scope and Contents

Contents are dated from 1994 to 2002. Most of the records are working drafts focused around the planning of different research projects, public programs and partnerships. A portion of the collection concerns the Columbia River Communities Project. The collection also contains board minutes from 1995-2001. These are intersperced with working files and includes program flyers, web page print outs, newspaper clippings, and newsletters.

Biographical / Historical

The Center for Columbia River History (CCRH) was an organization operating through a consortium of the Washington State Historical Society, Portland State University and Washington State University Vancouver that formed in 1990. CCRH served to promote the study of Columbia River Basin history. To this end, it supported numerous research projects and programs including the web-based Columbia River Communities Project, free public lectures on regional topics of history and teacher workshops. CCRH was under the directorship of Dr. Lauries Mercier (WSU Vancouver) and Dr. William (Bill) Lang (Portland State University) in the 1990s.

Abstract

The collection contains organizational files from the Center for Columbia River History. Most of the records are working files and drafts produced by Laurie Mercier, PhD., history professor at Washington State University Vancouver. The records pertain to program planning including the James B. Castles Endowment Program and the Columbia Communities Project, a website that included histories of communties along the Columbia River. Also included are board meeting minutes, curriculum planning, partnership agreements and other internal records.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged in two document boxes containing a total of 31 file folders.

Box 1: Pertains to records relating to public programs and the web-based Columbia River Communities project.

Box 2: Contains internal records from the organization's board meetings, research planning, partnership arrangements and correspondence.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was donated to the Archives and Special Collections by Dr. Laurie Mercier as part of a transfer of records from the History Department. Originally accessioned as SC-WSUV-2019-001.
