Biographical / Historical

Washington State University Vancouver was officially established in 1989. The first graduation ceremony was held in 1990 with 38 graduates. Ceremonies were initally hosted at several different location in Vancouver that included high schools. Ceremonies were later held at Clark College until 1997 when WSU Vancouver began to host graduatation outdoors on its newly opened campus at Salmon Creek. In the late 2000s, WSU Vancouver began hosting its graduation ceremonies at the RV Inn Style Resorts Amphitheater, formerly known as the Sleep Country Amphitheater, in Ridgefield, Washington.

Abstract

The collection includes videos for each year of Washington State University Vancouver graduation ceremonies beginning in 2009. The videos also include commencement highlights from 2010 and 2019-2021. There is also a video dated 2018 that demonstrates a graduate hooding. Full length commencement videos are not included for 2020 or 2021. The video collection contains highlights from a 2020 and 2021 "Drive Through" commencement event hosted on the WSU Vancouver campus. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the university did not hold traditional commencement ceremonies for those years. The bulk of digital files are in the MP4 format. The digital file for the 2025 ceremony is in the MKV format.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was assembled by the WSU Vancouver Archives and Special Collections. The videos were collected as an effort to preserve and document WSU Vancouver graduation ceremonies. Some video was retrieved from the Office of Marketing and Communications. Others were extracted from legacy WSU Vancouver web pages or from social media accounts. The collection was retrieved in 2022 and is accessioned as UA-WSUV-2022-003.
