Biographical / Historical

The Associated Students of Washington State University Vancouver (ASWSUV) was established in Spring 1990 as a student government for the students of Washington State University on the Vancouver campus. Their mission is to advocate on the behalf of students and seek to bridge the gap between students and faculty. ASWSUV acts as a student government for Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV), creating events throughout the academic year for students to participate and bring the college experience to a commuter campus like WSUV.

The executive staff of ASWSUV fall under the executive branch of the student government. Other branches include the Judicial branch, the legislative branch, the judicial board, and the election board. The executive branch includes the elected positions of the President and Vice President, who then appoint six applicants to positions such as the Department of Communications, Legislative Affairs, Student Enrichment, Public Relations, Leadership Development, and Chief of Staff. These appointments are also confirmed by the ASWSUV Senate.

The Senate falls under the judicial branch of ASWSUV. It is comprised of 11 elected senators. These senators meet regularly to pass legislation and allocate funding for the students.

The executive staff work together to create events for students that address issues within the student community such as hosting voter rallies, trips, banquets, movie nights, and workshops. The executive staff work with local and state legislators to pass bills that will benefit students.

Within ASWSUV, there is also another student government known as the Chancellor's Student Advisory Board (CSAB), composed of ASWSUV Executive Staff, Vice Chancellors, and other students that directly communicate with the Chancellor with the intention that student voices and concerns are voiced.
