Biographical / Historical
Information Technology (IT) and Academic Media Services (AMS) are closely tied services at WSU Vancouver. In 1995, IT was a part of Vancouver Information Services (VIS), which included Washington Higher Education Telecommunication Systems (WHETS) and the Library. WHETS was an integral service that provided cross-campus video communications that included long-distance education and teleconferencing between campuses. When VIS was restructured in 2009, WHETS gradually transitioned from older telecommunication systems to online streaming services under IT and became known as AMS.
Campus updates from the Chancellor were generally provided a couple of times a year, during the Fall and Spring semesters. In 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chancellor provided more frequent updates on state guidelines, closures, and challenges endured by the campus community during this period. Following disruptions from COVID-19, the Chancellor provided further guidance and information about the budget and declining enrollment at WSU Vancouver. In 2024, WSU Vancouver’s Chancellor, Mel Netzhammer, announced his plans for retirement in 2025. In the summer of 2025, Dr. Sandra Haynes was appointed interim-Chancellor at WSU Vancouver and continued providing updates on fiscal and organizational transitions facing the WSU system in relation to political, societal, and technological changes.

Abstract
The collection contains digital video files of recordings from WSU Vancouver's Chancellor providing updates and forums for the campus community. The Chancellor's communications were recorded and facilitated by Academic Media Services (AMS). Many of the recordings took place with online streaming and live audiences in the Lecture Hall at the Dengerink Administration Building (VDEN). Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, video recordings from 2020 were streamed over Zoom, a widely used cloud-based communication platform of the time. Regular recordings of the Chancellor's campus updates began in 2020 and concluded in the Spring of 2026. Mel Netzhammer, WSU Vancouver's Chancellor, retired in 2025. In the Summer of 2025, Dr. Sandra Haynes, Chancellor for WSU Tri-Cities, became the interim-Chancellor for WSU Vancouver. Haynes would eventually be promoted to Executive Vice President of WSU's Statewide Campuses in 2026, overseeing the operations of the Everett, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver campuses. Therefore, the recordings in this collection reflect the last recordings from a Chancellor on the WSU Vancouver campus. The collection represents periods of great transition for WSU Vancouver.

The collection is arranged chronologically in four folders covering the years from 2020 to 2026. The files are organized by date. Digital files are in their original format, with 28 files in the MP4 format and 2 in the MOV format.
