Biographical / Historical

WSU Vancouver emerged out of a consortium that developed in the 1980s called the Southwest Washington Joint Center for Education. In this collaboration, WSU was initially part of a graduate institute that partnered with The Evergreen State College (TESC)-Vancouver, which hosted upper-division level courses, and Clark College, which hosted lower-division level courses. Bauer Hall on the Clark College campus served to facilitate classroom and office space. With TESC-Vancouver dissolving in 1988, WSU officially established a branch campus in Vancouver in 1989, offering upper-division level courses and graduate programs. The university continued to operate out of Bauer Hall until the Summer of 1996 when the campus moved to its present location in Salmon Creek. The campus grew exponentially into the new millennium, opening its much-anticipated Engineering and Life Sciences Building in 2001. In 2006, the university added offerings of lower-division level course, establishing WSU Vancouver as the first four-year university in Southwest Washington. This accomplishment is noted as one of the crowning achievements during the tenure of WSU Vancouver's first Chancellor, Hal Dengerink, who retired from his role in 2011.

The collection consists of videos that were developed and produced by numerous sources including the Office of Marketing and Communications, the Digital Technology and Culture program, and Campus Advancement. The Office of the Chancellor primarily used the videos for promoting campus milestones and events during the early years of the university.
