Scope and Contents
The collection includes photographs, advertisements, graphics and videos used by VanCouar newspaper staff between 2011 and 2016. Photographs feature campus activities, student recreation, commencement, student government and individual and group shots of students, faculty and administration. Video clips in this collection cover the 2014 ASWSUV student government debates. Items in this collection were used for online and print publication.

This collection is open and available for research use. Access files are stored in the Digital Records of the Archives and contained on CDs and DVDs.
Biographical / Historical
The VanCougar student newspaper began in the 1990s as a newsletter for the Associated Students of Washington State University Vancouver (ASWSUV). Early publications of the VanCougar included two yearbooks in 1991 and 1992. During the 1993/1994 school year, the VanCougar was established as the official student newspaper, circulating as a bi-weekly campus publication. In 2017, the VanCougar changed to a magazine style format and in 2018 the publication was renamed to The VanCougar News Magazine. The VanCougar is affiliated with the Student Media Board (SMB), a governing body that guides and supports individual student media organizations in fulfilling their mission and meeting their goals.

7.10 Gigabytes : . The collection consists of over 1,300 digital files that include photographs, advertisement, miscellaneous graphics and videos. The collection is located in the Digital Records of the archives. A surrogate copy for access is available on CD/DVD. Original files are preserved on a deep storage cloud/server. Photographs are available in their original JPEG format. Advertisements and graphics are in PDF format and the video clips are saved in the MOV format.
Abstract
The collection contains digital files of photographs, advertisements, graphics and video clips used by the staff of the VanCougar student newspaper for print publication and online media between 2011 and 2016. The photographs feature campus events, student activities, individuals and organizations making campus news during this time span. The digital files were transfered to Archives and Special Collections by the editor-in-chief of the Vancougar in the Spring of 2014, 2015 and 2016. (Accessioned under UA-WSUV-2014-002, UA-WSUV-2015-002 and UA-WSUV-2016-002).
Arrangement
The collection consists of digital files and are arranged in three series based on type. These include:
Series 1: Photographs. This series contains a sub-series of folders arranged by the year in which the photographs were used in publication. Includes 1,232 photographs. Arranged for access on Disc 1.
Series 2: Advertisements. The series consist of ads for events and activities on campus as well as paid advertisements for businesses and services off campus. 86 advertisements are included. Arranged for access on Disc 2.
Series 3: Graphics. The series includes comics, logos for student organizations and other graphics used for specific news stories featured between 2011 and 2016. 83 graphics are included. Arranged for access on Disc 2.
Series 3: Videos. The series consists of four videos that feature debates between candidates in anticipation of the 2014 ASWSUV student government elections. Arranged for access on Disc 3.
All photographs are in JPEG format. Advertisements and graphics have been converted for use in PDF format. Video is in the MOV format. The original digital files are preserved as part of the Digital Records of the Archives and Special Collections. Preservation copies are on a deep cloud/server storage.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The Editor-in-Chief of the VanCougar transferred the files to the Archives and Special Collections in 2014, 2015 and 2016 (UA-WSUV-2014-002, UA-WSUV-2015-002 and UA-WSUV-2016-002). The files were processed as a part of the Archives Digital Records (DR) in 2019.
